Welcome back to another issue of The Denham Springs Local.
Ready for some peace and quiet? Well, I've got just the thing... School starts back this week!
It's kinda bittersweet honestly. I work from home and while I love being with my daughter all day, it'll be nice to be super productive for a few hours haha.
Good luck to all the parents out there doing the first-day pictures thing and the 6am wake-up negotiations.
Weather's about what you'd expect. Another sauna week:

Quick favor: if you know somebody who would like to know what's happening around town, forward this email to them. It helps us grow and helps them know what's going on!
Alright, let's get into it…
SHOUTOUT OF THE WEEK
The spring is still there!?!
This one's kinda embarrassing...
I honestly had no clue that one of the original Denham Springs is still there today for all of us to see.
I've lived here 13 years and I drive past this spot all the time. I could've sworn somebody told me years ago the spring got closed up. Turns out I was wrong.
And apparently LSU did a study and found 5 total springs in the area. Though the main mineral spring that Denham Springs is named after is still out there right off River Rd, tucked back in the woods at Spring Park.
I didn't even know Spring Park was a thing either!
Anyway, the spring is still active and still being fed by the aquifer underneath it.
Another cool fact: back in the 1800s people traveled here to drink the water and bathe in it because it was supposed to be good for you and help you escape yellow fever. There was also a 20-room hotel and a health resort built up around it.
Now it's finally getting some attention. The Leadership Livingston Class of 2026 picked Spring Park as their project, and the plans include a real walking path, landscaping, ADA picnic tables, redone pavilion, and getting the spring flowing stronger again. The park is on the National Register of Historic Places and doubles as a bird sanctuary thanks to the Denham Springs Garden Club.
I plan on finally going to check it out this weekend. It's kind of wild that the thing our whole town is named after has been sitting out there this whole time and I didn't even realize.
