Welcome back to another issue of The Denham Springs Local.

Got lots of fun fall activities this week and the weather to go along with it! Finally!

Quick favor: if you know somebody who would like to know what's happening around town, forward this email to them. It helps us grow and helps them know what's going on!

Alright, let's get into it…

SHOUTOUT OF THE WEEK

Immaculate Conception Fall Festival

This weekend is Immaculate Conception’s 56th annual fall festival. That’s a lot of years of rides and funnel cakes.

The church itself goes back a lot further than that. Apparently, in the early 1900s there were so few Catholics around here that a priest only came through once a month on a railroad chapel car.

The first church went up in 1916. It was a little wooden building, and the Amite River flooded often enough that the priests sometimes couldn’t even get to it.

It became an official parish in 1960. A few years later they bought the land on Hatchell, and the church that’s there now was dedicated in 1976.

Kind of cool that a festival this big came out of a congregation that used to meet around a train car.

“This is your bank’s fraud department”

Got a call like that yet? They know your name, sometimes your address, and they sound real helpful. They just need you to read back a code they texted you.

That code is what gets them into your account. Your bank isn’t going to call you up and ask for it.

The part that gets me is how much they already know before they ever dial. Most of it is floating around from old data breaches nobody remembers.

Here’s what I’d do about it:
